5 Reasons Employers Aren’t Willing To Hire You

Reasons Employers Won't Hire You

There’s a term for people who enjoy the thrill of the job search: happily employed. For the rest of us, looking for a job ranks right up there on the list of things to avoid alongside root canals, traffic jams, and the plague. If you’re stuck in a job you hate, or stuck on your couch watching Oprah, it’s probably because you prefer your current state of misery to the pain of job hunting. Few things in life have the power to discourage you quite like being rejected or ignored by an employer you don’t really want to work for in the first place.

It’s that feeling of inferiority that makes the job search so dismal. So what is it about you that makes you look and feel inferior? The answers are all in your head. All the negative, depressing, defeating thoughts you entertain as you send out resumes and trudge through interviews . . . they’re all true. But you can use them to your advantage. 7 Resume Lies Employers Will Never Check

Many Human Resources staffers preach the dangers of lying on your resume, and they’re right to an extent. Inventing companies and inflating employment lengths can get you fired or at the very least embarrassed during the hiring process. But employers don’t want complete honesty, do they? There are plenty of facts that are better left private (don’t disclose your religion, age, race, etc.). And employers expect you to put your best foot forward, so show them your very best. You’re giving them a snapshot of who you are; there’s nothing wrong with using just the right lighting to show them your good side on a resume.

So here are 7 “lies,” or careful manipulations of reality that will never get you into trouble (and they have a good shot of landing you a job) Read the rest of this entry »

8 Beautiful Infograph Depicting The Ugly Economy

This post might be a little depressing as it was for me while trying to compile these infographs. Below you will find eight beautifully done infographs that show the horrifying state of the U.S. economy. Buckle up and be prepared to be scared. No matter what anyone else says, it sure as heck isn’t looking good, at least not yet.

Ex-Cons Vs. Bad Credit : Who Would You Hire?

We recently did a poll on this subject on twitter and the results are fairly conclusive. Out of 98 votes, only 13% said they would hire an ex-con.

There could be many reasons for these results, but one high on the list may very well be a “once a criminal, always a criminal” frame of mind. There is good reason to think that way. According to the U.S. Department of Justice * Office of Justice Programs,

Of the 272,111 persons released from prisons in 15 States in 1994, an estimated 67.5% were rearrested for a felony or serious misdemeanor within 3 years, 46.9% were reconvicted, and 25.4% resentenced to prison for a new crime.

Taking this into consideration, it’s not surprising that most people would not want to have an ex-con working for them. Read the rest of this entry »
