If you haven’t been using Facebook as a job search tool, you are missing out on some good opportunities. We have covered LinkedIn and Twitter in the past but haven’t had a chance to do a post on how beneficial Facebook can be for job hunters. So here it is, a Facebook guide for job seekers.
The 5 “Social Media Types” Who Ended Up Losing Their Job

As most of you already know we tend to cover social media quite often. We think social media and job search are directly related in today’s fast paced world. Although the use of social media has become a must for networking purposes, it seems like many still don’t see the pitfalls. When you are using these different platforms to share your work frustration, you need to realize that your network also has an extended network. You may not have your boss or employer as friend or follower, but there might be someone else who is ready to rat you out. Be careful, the job search and career space is not what it used to be. Although how one should use social media is pretty straight forward, some seem to make pretty stupid mistakes. Below are some examples that cost someone their jobs based on what they did on these social networking platforms. Read the rest of this entry »
Share Your Resume On Twitter Using TwitRes

It’s no surprise that lately every web application is somehow related to Twitter. Yesterday we came across a new service called TwitRes that lets users upload and tweet their resume on twitter within seconds. To give it a try we uploaded our Resume 3.0 to test their service and it worked pretty good. Although there are many services that lets you upload and tweet documents, the fact that this service is for resume alone might gain some appeal. However, in the long run we are not sure how sustainable it really is. But for now, if you are looking to publish your resume on twitter this might be a good option. Read the rest of this entry »
Is Twitter a Platform To Release Your Boss Frustrations? Apparently So
It’s frustrating watching people say whatever they want about their bosses or work on social media platforms. This week has been nothing short of crazy when it comes to work and social media usage. One of our moist popular posts to date has been the Facebook firing of a employee who friended her boss on Facebook and called him out while she was still on a six month trial period. The outcome of that meltdown of course cost her the job. Yesterday I was looking at twitter and just searching for some tweets to see how many people actually say as they please on twitter in regards to their work and bosses, the results are overwhelming. Give it a try sometimes on twitter search with phrases such as “I hate my boss” or “I hate my work” etc. and you will get an idea. Read the rest of this entry »
Social Media and Job Search : Get Your Priorities Straight

The other day we published a post called How To Lose a Job Via Facebook In 140 Characters Or Less. The response was overwhelming and we think we should share a few things we know about social media and job search. You see, we have all become slaves to these platforms. We wake up and start telling the world what we had for breakfast and how we got slammed by our bosses for being late. Although these platforms have given us a means to connect with each other and foster relationship, there are many pitfalls that we seem to ignore. Today we just wanted to share a few things in respect to job search and social media. Read the rest of this entry »

These days social media and job search go hand in hand. Of course the age old knock on the door and “are you hiring?” scenario is still out there but many people favor job search via networking and making use of online job search sites.
Over the years networking platforms such as Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn have become a must for job seekers. If you aren’t on the web, at times it’s almost impossible to secure a job. However, some people seem to keep forgetting that social media if not utilized properly can hurt your job search and can lead to job loss. Please take a look at the image below,
The image above clearly shows the implications if you use social media platforms the wrong way. Of course, when you have a Facebook account it’s your personal account. However, it depends how you are using it. Are you using it to simply connect with your friends and family or are you using it to connect with professionals? Before you go ahead and utilize the power of free speech on Facebook or any other social media platforms make sure you watch what you are saying. Social media has given us tremendous amount of power in terms of job search but it has also made everything we do much more vulnerable. The saying “choose your words carefully” might be true now than ever before. Read the rest of this entry »

5 Social Media Jobs That Made Us Drool This Year
There are many people getting paid to use Facebook, twitter and other social sites. It seems like friends, followers and your influence on social sites are starting to become synonymous with job qualifications. Recent example is that of Best Buy where job applicants had to have at least 250 followers on Twitter. Another one that I can recall is a job posting for The Phnom Penh Post (Cambodian Nespaper) where the applicant qualifications had to include at least 150 followers on twitter, 200 friends on Facebook, adminstrator or creator of at least one Facebook group and a blog with pagerank 2 or higher. It just goes to show that the job search landscape is increasingly being shaped by social media. Recruiters and employers want candidates that are social media savvy.

Here are 5 social media jobs that made us drool this year and we are sure there are more coming. Read the rest of this entry »
