The title actually is a conversation between me and my dad which happened about 5 years ago. Imagine being all frustrated because you just can’t find a job, you go to your dad to just let it out a bit, man to man and he says “keep dreaming.” That didn’t go very well. It seemed like he meant I was incapable of landing a job. Think of it this way, you go to someone and tell them your problem. In my case, not being able to get a job. You tell them you can’t score a job and they say “keep dreaming.” See what I mean? At that time it seemed like he meant that me getting a job can only be a dream. I was quite upset at him but after two more beers he gave me an advice that has had a big impact on me.
So what is the secret to scoring a job? Keep dreaming and here are the reasons why :
1. Motivation : Dreams motivate you. If you are planning on starting a business of your own you need cash. You need saving and to make that happen you need a job. If you are looking for a job, frustration and depression isn’t going to take you anywhere. What you need is motivation and dreams will help you motivate. Next time you go for a job interview, think of the dream that you have been planning to make it a reality in couple years and how this job can help you achieve that later. You will see the confidence shine in yourself.
2. Sense Of Urgency : Dreams give you a sense of urgency. Even if you have quite a bit saved to keep things going for a few months after a layoff, it is better to get a job as soon as possible to keep that saving intact. After all, you have a dream that might require the saved up cash, why tap into it? If you dream, it will help you develop the sense of urgency. You want it to happen, you want it sooner. Think of ways how a job can help you make that dream come true. You will be able to execute much better cause you have something to look forward to that somehow ties with your job search and the job you might land.
3. Goals : Job search is a job in itself and there needs to be a few goals in place. As humans we are selfish. Come on, don’t deny it. I am the sole provider to my family and although it is my responsibility and first priority to get that going, I have my personal dreams that I want to fulfill. When looking for jobs, your priority and responsibility is to keep your family going. Making sure there is everything for everybody. But your goal (personal) needs to be something that you want to do just for yourself. Whether it’s buying a 60 inch TV or starting your very own business, keep that in the back of your head and you will have a goal that will make you an active job seeker, ready to take on any question from the interviewer.
4. Excitement : Dreams are a tremendous source of inspiration and excitement. Imagine sitting on a beach, sipping on some wine while not really having to worry about living paycheck to paycheck, and all this because of your very own business, wouldn’t that be nice? So how are you going to achieve that? You need something at this point to keep things going so you can devote some time to build an empire for yourself. Dreams will excite you. They give you vision. So start dreaming before you go out for the job hunt or start losing faith in yourself.
If anyone ever shares their frustration next time about not being able to get a job, remind them to keep dreaming.

Woah. And I thought NOT getting a job was easier than getting one.
But yeah, dreaming is a good way to get started prior to really landing a job. Would it be safe to say that dreaming helps in getting one focused and visualize on the work that he can see himself doing immediately in the coming months?
Hey Daniel, Thanks for taking the time to stop by.
It definitely does. I was just pointing out things that would motivate you to land a job that might not be directly related to the job. I will have a post coming on that pretty soon as well
